King Marine - Tug, Workboat and Multicat Skippering

Provision of Skippers and Crew for Tugs, Multi-Cats and Workboats


King Marine Ltd has supplied tug skippers for coastal towing and barge positioning, including coastal towing around Scotland, towing duties on the Pelamis Wave Energy, Orkney’s project, anchor handling for crane barges, Morocco core sampling, offshore towing between the UK and Portugal and transporting materials and equipment for building projects on the Thames and for windfarm projects around the UK.


Sea Defences

 

King Marine Ltd has been involved in many sea defence projects over the years around  England, Fairisle & The Channel Islands. Our involvement has included the design and execution of transportation methods for large quantities of rock and beach material from quarries in Norway, Sweden, France and Ireland as well as overseeing the preparation of beaching areas, construction of temporary berthing quays and mooring systems to our design and overall site management for the day-to-day running of the projects.

 

The methods and equipment we have used include: Barges (500 - 23,000 ton carrying capacity), tugs (2.5 - 200 ton bollard pull), ships, dredgers, beaching, temporary berths, mooring systems, cranes, loading shovels, excavators, RIBs and personnel.

Water Transportation Project in Turkey

King Marine - Maritime Project Consultation

In 2000-2002 King Marine Ltd was contracted to Nordic Water Supply to help develop their fresh water transportation project in the Mediterranean, involving 10,000 – 20,000, 30,000 & 38,000 cubic metre water-carrying balloons, work boats and up to 30 ton bollard pull tugs.


The project involved developing a reliable & safe method for the towing,  manoeuvring and berthing the balloons, training the Turkish captains and crews to handle the tug and work boats as well as helping them to take over the project as a Turkish-run operation.

African Construction Projects

In Mozambique King Marine Ltd oversaw the construction and
anchoring system of pontoons and towers for a floating Bailey Bridge across the Limpopo River.

King Marine - Marine Construction Projects

In The Sudan King Marine Ltd oversaw the construction of a triple-screw vehicle carrying ferry / bunker barge using local labour, on the River Nile. Thereafter we trained local boatmen to operate and maintain it.

Consultancy, Brokerage, Surveys and Design

 

King Marine’s consultancy work has included advising on access to the Caspian Sea for barges, tugs and coasters, providing information and advice on mooring equipment, and work on a new concept in towing methods to reduce drag and increase speed by the use of DGPS controlled paravanes. King Marine Ltd has also been involved in the design of mooring configurations for barges and further barge modifications.

 

We have undertaken various surveys including beach surveys to facilitate temporary access for the delivery of large quantities of building materials, a barge survey in St. Petersburg and a winch mooring system. King Marine Ltd also provides brokerage services.

Chris King - Owner / Director of King Marine Ltd.

Chris King is the Founder and Managing Director of King Marine Ltd. He is a qualified Assessor for the National Workboat Association's Towing Endorsements. He set up King Marine in 1989 and has had a successful career involving a wide variety of marine projects since then.
